Let’s sink our Teeth into it, Dental Webinar

back

Let’s Sink Our Teeth Into It was a free webinar focused on improving access to appropriate dental care for people living with Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI). The event brought together individuals with OI, parents, caregivers, and dental professionals to explore the specific dental challenges associated with the condition and to share evidence‑based information on inclusive and effective dental care. The webinar aimed to increase understanding of the barriers people with OI can face when accessing dental services and to promote informed, confident decision‑making.

The programme included a lived experience presentation from Brittle Bone Society member Fiona Holmes, alongside expert sessions delivered by specialists in dental public health, orthodontics, paediatric dentistry, and special care dentistry. Topics covered included barriers and enablers to inclusive dental care, orthodontic treatment considerations, how OI can affect dental development in childhood, and dental care for adults living with OI. The webinar provided attendees with practical information and professional insights to support improved dental care experiences across all ages within the OI community.

Key support in helping steer us to the formation of our Oral Health Webinar programme BBS would like to thank Prof Susan Parekh, she has worked in general practice, community dental services and joined the staff of UCL Eastman in 2004. She is passionate about improving knowledge of paediatric dentistry and increasing access to post-graduate education. She is a member of the BBS Medical Advisory Board and has helped our charity enormously.
