OI Can Outdoor Activity Weekend 2026
Overview
Brittle Bone Society (BBS) were delighted to host our OI Can Outdoor Activity Weekend in May 2026, held at the fully accessible Calvert Trust in Kielder Water and Forest Park, Northumberland. The event brought together individuals and families living with Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI) for a supportive and fun residential experience centred on inclusion, confidence-building, and shared enjoyment.
Inclusive Activities
Participants took part in a wide range of carefully adapted outdoor activities delivered by expert instructors. These included climbing, king-swing, archery, axe throwing, and water-based activities such as canoeing, all tailored to suit individual abilities and comfort levels. The accessible facilities and specialist equipment ensured that everyone could participate fully and safely, regardless of their level of experience or mobility. Attendees had the opportunity to connect with others who share an understanding of life with OI, building friendships and exchanging experiences. Families particularly valued the chance to spend quality time together in an environment where accessibility needs were fully met, allowing them to relax and create lasting memories.
Lasting Impact
The event provided attendees the opportunity to try new activities, build confidence, and embrace independence. The OI Can Outdoor Activity Weekend once again demonstrated the importance of inclusive, accessible experiences for the OI community.
Thank you to Kyowa Kirin and Mereo BioPharma for providing grants towards the funding of this event.
