Wishbone Day

Every year on 6 May, people around the world come together to mark Wishbone Day, an international awareness‑raising day for Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI). OI, often known as brittle bone disease, is a rare genetic condition that causes bones to break easily and can affect people in many ways.

Wishbone Day is about more than awareness alone. By taking part, you help shine a spotlight on the lived experiences of people with OI, challenge misconceptions, and support families and individuals with OI across the UK and Ireland. Every conversation started, photo shared and activity organised helps the Brittle Bone Society (BBS) continue its vital work. Find out more information about Wishbone Day.

Why Wishbone Day Matters

  • Raises awareness of a rare and often misunderstood condition
  • Celebrates the strength and resilience of people living with OI
  • Encourages understanding and inclusion in schools, workplaces and communities

Turn It Yellow on 6 May

Wishbone Day is proudly represented by the colour yellow. Turning things yellow is a simple but powerful way to show your support and get people talking about OI.

Get involved by:

  • Wearing yellow — from socks and t‑shirts to full outfits
  • Baking something yellow for colleagues, friends or classmates
  • Crafting or creating something yellow, including a wishbone design
  • Encouraging your school, workplace or community group to join in

Wear yellow on 6 May and share your photos with us! Tag @brittlebonesociety, use #WishboneDay, or email your photos to admin@brittlebone.org so we can share and celebrate your support.

Spread the Word

There’s no limit to what you can do for Wishbone Day. Over the years, supporters have:

  • Organised awareness events at work or university
  • Held “dress yellow” days at school
  • Baked yellow‑themed treats
  • Hosted inclusive walks or online events

Planning something for Wishbone Day? Let us know! We may be able to provide resources or merchandise, and we’d love to help share your efforts.
