Mobility and equipment

Mobility and equipment

Most individuals who need equipment to help them live more independently can get it from their local authority or NHS.  You will need to ask for a social care needs assessment for things like bathroom equipment and wheelchairs.  You may however find that due to needing specialised equipment the full amount will not be funded or they cannot supply equipment suitable for your needs.  If this is the case the BBS can often assist with funding if you live in the UK or Ireland.

BBS Equipment Grants

The Brittle Bone Society can fund manual and powered wheelchairs, trikes, buggies and other types of equipment. We do not fund Higher Education fees or ‘white goods’ (e.g. hobs, cookers, fridges, soft furnishings or building works). We can very occasionally help with holidays or respite care. We cannot accept applications for retrospective funding.

For full details and to apply for funding please download our Equipment Application Form HERE

Applications for equipment must be supported by a letter of support from a healthcare professional such as an Occupational Therapist or a Physiotherapist confirming the equipment you require meets your needs.

If you would like to contact us for more information, if you need assistance with getting an assessment, or you would like an update on the progress of your application, please contact us on 01382 204446 or email us.
