John Farmery
RIP
18/11/1939 – 11/02/2025
Brittle Bone Society (BBS) pay tribute at the sad news of the passing of John Farmery. A much loved man who alongside his late wife Gertie, devoted most of his life supporting the work of the BBS. A lifelong advocate in raising awareness of Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI) and fundraising for the work that the Society has undertaken from the very beginning of the Charity’s journey back in 1968.
John and his late wife Gertie who passed away in 2021, was a front runner in the set up of the Longridge Branch alongside other dedicated volunteers and hardworking supporters. The first outing was a jumble sale in the local Scout Hut and they built that up to run numerous higher profile events annually including concerts and gave talks about what it was like to live with OI.
The Society were in years past, determined to ensure that John and Gertie were suitably honoured for all they had achieved, and to recognise their outstanding achievements and the thousands of pounds they donated over many years.
At the Charity’s 50th Anniversary celebration in Dundee in 2018, John and Gertie were given a Lifetime Achievement Award presented by the Chairman Elaine Healey and Treasurer Robert Gordon.
Elaine Healey Chairman said about John: “He was such a lovely man, the Society were really saddened to learn of John’s passing, and he was devoted to the BBS. We benefitted from his friendship and regular generous donations kindly offered over so many years. To learn that John had passed away was sad, but what a legacy he has helped us build.”
Lifelong friend and Trustee Yvonne Grant was also very saddened by the news – Yvonne remembers: “The Farmery’s often visited Dundee and helped make many special memories on their regular trips to the Grant household. I will miss John. RIP.”
Patricia Osborne CEO said: “I met John on his regular visits to Dundee with his late wife Gertie when they both made time to drop by the office and say hi to the staff. We send our condolences to the family.”
The family have very kindly agreed permission for a floral tribute from the Brittle Bone Society. To honour John, dearly beloved husband of the late Gertie.
The funeral service will take place at Preston Crematorium on Wednesday 26th February at 12.45pm
