I have nearly 40 years experience of healthcare in different roles including specialising as an Intensive Care nurse. I was then successful in being appointed to a fast track graduate programme which on completion led to a number of appointments as an executive Director of Nursing. These roles included opportunities to lead nursing as well as responsibility for the operational management of significant budgets. During this time I was influential across the UK in the Modernisation of Nursing and particularly in the development of post graduate nursing. This work led to the award of an OBE.
I was appointed as the Dean of Nursing in the University of Dundee in 2007 and retired from this role in 2018. In addition to being Dean I was also a Deputy Principal with responsibility for the strategic leadership of Internationalisation for the University. I was one of the first Deans to be appointed from practice but demonstrated success in making this transition.
I have significant governance experience in having been a non executive Director of an NHS Trust , Trustee and Chair of a charity for people with MS and more recently as a Trustee for BBS. I have been impressed by the impact of BBS in shaping policy , supporting research, influencing services as well as making a difference to individuals.
I have excellent knowledge and understanding of leadership and governance in addition to being motivated to continue as a Trustee.
Retirement is busy but time for family, fun, more travel, learning new things, walking and taking up competitive bowling.
