Professor S. Faisal Ahmed

After receiving the bulk of his clinical and scientific training in Edinburgh, London and Cambridge, Professor Ahmed was appointed as a consultant in paediatric endocrinology at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children, Yorkhill, Glasgow in 2000 where he founded a comprehensive metabolic bone service for children. In 2012 he was appointed as the Samson Gemmell Chair of Child Health at the University of Glasgow where he currently leads the team at the Office for Rare Conditions Registries. Since 2019 he has also held an additional chair at Leiden University as Professor of Endocrine Registries. Professor Ahmed has a clinical and research in a wide range of rare endocrine and bone conditions and was closely involved in the initial development of European Reference Networks. In 2021, Professor Ahmed was awarded the European Society for Paediatric Endocrinology Research Award and in 2024 he was appointed as the Editor in Chief of Endocrine Connections.
